SIBROL
Three access methods to the SIBROL database (CARIS-like)
has been implemented:
-
A quick method of accessing (Browse) a document consists
in browsing the database by am attribute, e.g. author or title. It is very useful for users
who have no experience with the databases. It may be also very useful if know the author or
title and would like to get quickly to the document;
-
The second method (Search) consists in building a query, where
we can specify terms and use the logical operators AND, OR, NOT. Although it is not as
simple as browsing, it is not too difficult. Actually it can be used by the users having
already just a little experience. The system provides dictionary lists of terms, so instead
of a blind trial and error the user can pick the terms from a list and add it to
a given search field;
-
and there is also a third search method (Agrovoc supported search). It is
thesaurus based search. Before formulating a query, the user can refer to the thesaurus
in order to consult the terminology. One can navigate through the thesaurus using the
internal thesaurus links. And while visiting a term one can mark it as relevant for
the query. All marked descriptors are automatically cummulated into the search field.
Then one can submit the automatically created query, or one can edit the query
beforehand.
